It is one of the biggest nature Parks in Austria: with a total area of more than 727 km² the natural park covers nearly the whole Karwendel mountain. The Karwendel mountain is nature protected - and will inspire you with its wild, magnificent beauty.
The natural park Karwendel is since 1928 under nature protection and is one of the oldest nature parks und Europe. It is known for its rocky mountains, big forests and gentle mountain pastures, for its ethnic vegetation and its many rare animal species and plants. In it are 11 different landscape protection areas from the mountain tops to the swamps.
The best would be to take a guided Karwendel tour, to learn more about the wildlife. Golden eagles, steenbok and common sandpipers but also lots of wild orchids and ancient sycamore maples can be found in this region – and the bird life in Karwendel fascinates with numerous protected species. About 2/3 from Tyrols birds are breeding in Karwendel.
The Karwendel mountain range is surely one of the most fascinating holiday sceneries in the Alps! The nature paradise is an Eldorado for active holidaymakers for a reason.
